What do e-liquids and beer have in common? Turns out more than you may have thought. A vape pairing is a great way to enjoy both at the same time. Today, we’ll walk you through the basics.

Whether you’re a big fan of beer, wine, or mixed drinks. Chances are, you’ve never enjoyed a vape and drink at the same time. If that’s the case, you’re really missing out. Vape pairings bring a layer of fun to vaping, and can be enjoyed by anyone. Heck, even if you’re sober, pairings tend to work great with mixed fruit juices as well!

NOTE: It’s always good to give credit where credit is due. Grimm Green turned me onto vape pairings, which eventually led to me doing them on my YT channel!

What you’ll need:

  1. A beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic, we leave that part to you)
  2. A clean glass
  3. A few e-juice flavors to start
  4. Your device

The gist of Vape pairings

Vape pairings are very similar to food and wine pairings. Simply put, you’re looking for similar flavors to enjoy with others, or introducing contrasting flavors to bring your palate to life.

Here are a few examples to get you started:

  1. Wheat beer and fruit liquids
  2. Hoppy brews and sour fruit liquids
  3. Light beers and dessert flavors
  4. Cherry wine and cherry eliquids
  5. White wine and dessert flavors
  6. Full-bodied red wines and fruit custard ejuices

Getting Started

Vape pairings work best when you pour whatever beverage you’re using into a glass with a large opening. This will provide enough space the flavors in your vapor and drink to marry (make friends), and give your palate and nose a chance to pick up on the nuances.

I’ve found that it’s easier to start with similar flavors, drinks that you’re familiar with, and then work your way to more interesting combinations as you grow comfortable with the concept. Lighter craft beers are a great place to start, because they’re typically infused with subtle flavors, that are easy to pick up on. In general, if your drink has a good amount of fruit flavors, you’ll want to find an e-liquid on the same level. So a wheat beer with notes of crisp green apple will pair best with an apple or pear flavored e-juice.

The Pairing

After you have pick the two components of your pairing out, and have poured your beverage into a clean glass, you’re ready to get started. You can start by taking a small sip of your drink, or hit of your vape first, to get an idea of what’s going on flavor-wise if you want (but it’s really not necessary).

What you’re looking to do:

  1. take a decent draw from your vape, and hold the vapor in (don’t exhale…)
  2. take your the cup filled with your drink of choice, and slowly exhale the vapor into the glass – I normally close my eye when doing so.
  3. then take a sip of drink while inhaling a bit of your vapor
  4. give your senses enough time to pick up on the individual flavors working in the e-juice and drink
  5. Finally, swallow your beverage, and exhale your vapor shortly after

In general, the steps above are a guideline to any vape pairing. You can bend the rules a bit, but sticking to the basics has always worked best for me.

Once you’ve got the hang of things, feel free to follow your gut. If a pairing makes sense in your head, chances are it will probably work out great. Of course, there are a few exception to that theory, but that’s part of the fun!!!

Conclusion

It’s as easy as that. Vape pairings are a great when you’re out with your friends enjoying a drink, and can add an extra layer of fun by combining two things you’re already familiar with. Some of my favorite pairings ever have actually came through non-alcoholic mixed fruit juices in combination with complex fruit e-liquids. A word of fair warning moving forward though, once you’ve started pairing you’re not likely to return!
