It may have taken some time, but the American Cancer Society has acknowledged e-cigarettes are safer than cigarettes. Rejoice, vapers — because this is HUGE news.
The ACS admitted the American people have not been told the whole truth over the past decade by the government and private institutions.
The massive harmful effects that supposedly will occur when people vape are simply overblown propaganda, the ACS admitted in a press release.
The health organization known for helping individuals become more informed about all kinds of cancers will actively promote vaping as a viable alternative to combustible cigarettes.
There is an “urgent need” to tell the public the truth, according to the release.
The ACS said tobacco is the carrier of cancerous carcinogens and chemicals, not nicotine. Consumer education remains key to understanding the realities of smoking traditional cigarettes versus vaping.
After stepping out of the shadows earlier this year and publically divulging that electronic cigarettes should be highly recommended as a safer alternative to smoking, the ACS’ recent statement appeared to be another step forward in the eyes of vaping advocates.
“Although many Electronic Nicotine Device Systems (ENDS) deliver nicotine, flavor additives, and other chemicals, they do not burn tobacco, a process that yields an estimated 7000 chemicals, including at least 70 carcinogens,” the ACS said in a statement. “Thus, public misunderstanding underscores the urgent need for consumer education about the absolute and relative risks posed by different tobacco products and to reinvigorate smokers’ understanding of the importance of quitting combustible tobacco.”
The ACS went further. The spread of misinformation should cease, for the long-term health of Americans.
“Many consumers are misinformed about the harms of ENDS,” the ACS said. “Many adults believe, erroneously, that ENDS are as harmful as combustible tobacco products, and the level of public understanding has deteriorated over time.”
Like they say, the truth will set you free.
In vaping’s case, the whole truth will come out, eventually.
